PHP Backend Engineer

Description

We are hiring a PHP Backend Developer to join our team in Islamabad. The ideal candidate needs to have a strong backend development proficiency in PHP, hands-on experience with Codeigniter and Laravel, and the ability to manage complex, large codebases while writing testable, scalable, and maintainable code.

Core Skills & Technologies

1. Backend Development
2. Strong expertise in PHP (PHP 5 & 7)
3. Hands-on experience with Laravel and CodeIgniter frameworks
4. Strong knowledge of OOP design patterns, principles, and best practices
5. API development and integration (RESTful, JSON, XML)
6. Writing scalable, testable, and maintainable backend code
7. Refactoring and optimizing legacy code

9. MySQL (query optimization, indexing, stored procedures)
10. MongoDB (basic to intermediate)

12. Version Control & Collaboration
13. Strong grip on Git/GitHub (branching strategies, pull requests, resolving conflicts)
14. Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and JIRA

18. Linux/Ubuntu server environments (deployment, configuration, troubleshooting)
19. Experience in staging-to-production deployment workflows
20. Frontend Familiarity

Working knowledge of JavaScript is required, with exposure to frameworks such as AngularJS, ReactJS, or similar being an added advantage. While this is mainly a backend engineer role, the ability to work together effectively with frontend engineers and understand client-side code is necessary.

AI & Modern Development Tools

Experience or willingness to work with AI-powered developer tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar to enhance productivity and code quality.

Responsibilities

1. Collaborate daily with the team lead on backend development projects
2. Build, maintain, and optimize backend services and APIs
3. Improve and modify existing code for scalability, maintainability, and performance
4. Manage and contribute to large codebases effectively
5. Write automated tests to ensure the reliability of new and existing features
6. Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve backend issues promptly
7. Maintain up-to-date technical documentation
8. Handle deployment processes on development and production servers
9. Review, recheck code, and provide valuable feedback to other team members
10. Participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives as part of an Agile team
11. Proactively identify technical debt and propose practical solutions to address it

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Rs40,000 – Rs80,000 per month

Work Location: In person — Islamabad (Reliable commute or relocation required before starting)
